„Understanding and Managing Social-ecological Risks”-Workshop in Paris

Paris, June 19th and 20th 2025

The Social-Ecological Transition (SET) Initiative at Science Po Paris hosted the workshop “Understanding and Managing Social-ecological Risks”.

WELRISCC-partners such as Matteo Mandelli, Anne-Laure Beaussier, Tom Chevalier and Bruno Palier took part and presented their previously published paper on the matter: “Defining, Operationalizing and Classifying Socio-Ecological Risks”. The event served as a platform to analyze this paper and many more and sparked a discussion about analytical frameworks of social-ecological risks.

Furthermore, new data was presented on social-ecological risks in the global north and south. The discussion about the data was accompanied by proposals for coping with social-ecological risks, as well as the political economy of the attitudes towards social-ecological risks.

The WELRISCC-partners Anne-Laure Beaussier, Lydie Cabane, Tom Chevalier and Benoit Giry highlighted how social-ecological risks are institutionalized with the presentation of their paper: “Protecting against social-ecological risks in Europe: a comparative perspective on environmental risk protection policies”.

This interdisciplinary discourse will influence the further WELRISCC research.
